Frequently Asked Questions
1. Is a physiotherapist the same as a physical therapist?
Yes. The two terms mean the same thing and are used interchangeably. Canada and most of the world say physiotherapy, while the US says physical therapy.
2. Do I need a doctor’s referral to see a physiotherapist in Surrey?
No. Physiotherapists in BC can be seen directly, so you can book with our Surrey physiotherapists without a doctor’s referral. Some extended health plans ask for a referral before they reimburse a claim, so check your plan before your first visit.
3. Who are the physiotherapists at your Surrey clinic?
Our Surrey physiotherapy team is Andrea Forer, Manny Lehal, Sajan Johal and Robell Mekonen. Robell also works at our New Westminster clinic. You can book any of them online.
4. Does ICBC cover physiotherapy in Surrey?
If your motor vehicle accident was within 12 weeks of your first appointment, we can direct bill ICBC for eligible physiotherapy once you complete the Motor Vehicle Accident form online, sign the third party billing agreement and add a credit card to your account. If your accident was more than 12 weeks ago, email your written ICBC approval to MVA@catalystkinetics.com before booking.
5. How does billing work for physiotherapy at your Surrey clinic?
We direct bill ICBC for physiotherapy after a motor vehicle accident. For extended health and other plans, please see our Billing Options page or contact our Surrey reception at 604-553-3099 or surrey@catalystkinetics.com before your first visit. We are unable to check how much your plan will cover.
6. How much does physiotherapy cost at your Surrey clinic?
A new patient physiotherapy appointment (45 to 60 minutes) is $160. Follow-up visits are $105 for 30 minutes, $150 for 45 minutes and $195 for 60 minutes. See our fee schedule for current rates.
7. What happens at my first physiotherapy appointment?
Your first visit is a 45 to 60 minute new patient appointment. Your physiotherapist will assess your condition, work with you one-on-one to find the root of the problem and build a treatment plan with you, which may include hands-on treatment, exercise and active rehabilitation.
8. Do your Surrey physiotherapists offer IMS or dry needling?
Functional dry needling and intramuscular stimulation (IMS) are among the treatment techniques our Surrey physiotherapy team lists, along with manual therapy, exercise prescription and blood flow restriction training. Ask our reception team which physiotherapist offers IMS when you book.
9. What is the difference between physiotherapy and massage therapy?
Massage therapy focuses on easing tension in the muscles and soft tissue. Physiotherapy focuses on rehabilitation and prevention, using assessment, hands-on treatment and exercise to support mobility and function, and your physiotherapist may also suggest sessions with our Surrey registered massage therapists.
10. Where is your Surrey physiotherapy clinic and when is it open?
