physiotherapeutic care
Pelvic floor Physiotherapy is a specialized form of physical therapy focused on assessing and treating issues related to the pelvic floor muscles, which support the core, bladder, uterus, and bowel. It involves a variety of techniques, including exercises, manual therapy, and education, aimed at improving pelvic floor muscle strength, coordination, and function
The pelvic floor is a group of muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues that form a hammock-like structure at the base of the pelvis. The pelvic floor muscles play a crucial role in controlling urinary and fecal continence, stabilizing the pelvis, and supporting the organs within the pelvis. They also contribute to sexual function and can affect posture and overall core stability. Proper functioning of the pelvic floor is essential for overall health and well-being.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The initial session is a 60-minute appointment that includes both assessment and treatment. The physiotherapist will take a detailed history of your current symptoms, perform a physical assessment, and collaborate with you to develop an individualized treatment plan aimed at achieving your goals. The physical assessment may involve an internal examination.
For females, this may include a vaginal exam, and in some cases, a rectal exam might be necessary. While the exam may be slightly uncomfortable, no instruments are used, and we strive to minimize any discomfort. Treatment is customized for each individual, focusing on education and self-management, and may include manual techniques, exercise prescription, postural correction, and acupuncture if needed. Follow-up sessions can be either 30 or 60 minutes, based on your needs. Currently, we offer pelvic floor physiotherapy exclusively for females
